Berlesse - Tullgren funnel 

⌛Berlesse- Tullgren funnel is a device for extracting organisms from dry soil.

⌛It consists of a light source, a large funnel, a strong wire mesh and a collecting jar or beaker.

⌛The light source can be a bright electric bulb.

⌛The wire mesh is placed inside the funnel, forming a shelf.

⌛The narrow tube of the funnel is inserted into the collecting jar.

⌛The sample soil is placed on the wiremesh and the lamp is lighted.

⌛The organisms in the sample soil gradually move down to the collecting jar to avoid light and heat.

⌛The collecting jar may be partially filled with alcohol, formalin, or water.

⌛The animals collected in the jar are then sorted out and identified with the helpof a microscope.
